Frequently Asked Questions

What is Clinical Strength?

Clinical Strength and Conditioning is a program specifically designed and tailored for your individual needs by a trained physiotherapist. Strength training has been shown to be crucial regardless of age or medical history. Our programs can be designed specifically as part of your treatment and rehabilitation or to compliment your general strength and fitness.

Following a thorough assessment, your physiotherapist is able to prescribe and recommend exercise that are specific for you and your needs based on your injury, injury history and relevant medical history.

Why is strength training important?

Strength and resistance training has been shown to be crucial in the management of a number of musculoskeletal conditions including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and back pain. Recent research has also highlighted the benefits of resistance training for neurological conditions such as dementia, alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Disease and stroke.

Regardless of your medical history or age, our muscle mass has been shown to gradually decrease from the age of 30. Completing resistance and strength training has been shown to reduce the rate of muscle mass loss.

Our physiotherapists at ME Physio are able to introduce and tailor a program for you regardless of your medical history or exercise history. You will be able to utilise our onsite gym and specially tailored equipment.

How often should you do Clinical Strength?

Whilst Clinical Strength should be done at least twice a week, your program will be tailored and individualised based on what you need to address but your program takes into consideration all your physical activities and exercise throughout the week.

Current recommendations for strength and conditioning guidelines recommend to complete at least two to three sessions per week. Your physiotherapist at ME Physio is best placed to discuss how often you should do Clinical Strength to get maximum benefit.

Can I claim my Clinical Strength appointment on Private Health insurance?

Given that our physiotherapists at ME Physio supervise and program your Clinical Strength program – you are able to claim Clinical Strength on Private Health Insurance extras.

We are able to claim on-the-spot using HICAPs when you bring your card to your appointment. Where required or for prepaid packs, our team will provide you with a receipt with all details that will assist in claiming your Clinical Strength through your private health insurer after the date of service.

I’ve never exercised before, how do I start?

As our programs are individually tailored, our physiotherapists will be able to design a program regardless of whether you have exercised before. Whether that involves using equipment or even your body weight, our physiotherapists are experts at developing a program specifically for you.
